- What areas does SpeedAlert cover?
A. Currently SpeedAlert covers all capital cities. For other areas that are covered, please visit
Our Coverage Page (http://speedalert.com.au/coverage.php)
- How accurate is SpeedAlert?
A. SpeedAlert relies on the GPS Receiver for its location. GPS Receivers are accurate to within 5-10 metres, depending on weather conditions, and whether you are within built up areas.
- How does it know how fast I am going?
A. The SpeedAlert GPS Receiver receives your exact position every 1 second from Global Positioning Satellites (GPS). From this information, SpeedAlert then accurately calculates your speed and displays it on your screen. Your actual speed is used to calculate whether you are exceeding the posted speed limit. SpeedAlert then advises you that you are exceeding the speed limit by the use of both audible and visual user defined alerts.
- Can SpeedAlert differentiate between different directions of travel?
A. Yes it can. It is quite possible the oncoming traffic has a differing speed limit to the direction you are travelling.
SpeedAlert intelligence knows the precise direction you are travelling, and alerts you to the correct speed limit based on that direction.
- Do i need to be an IT guru to run SpeedAlert?
A. No. SpeedAlert is a very simple, yet powerful application. All you need to do is:
1.Turn on your GPS receiver
2.Ensure SpeedAlert option is set to “ON” (please refer to your GPS unit user handbook) and
3.Drive without the worry.
- Is SpeedAlert going to be beeping and alerting me all the time?
A. That would be annoying, wouldn’t it?
SpeedAlert has been built with 3 threshold levels of alert. The user can set it to alert at a predetermined number of kilometres over the speed limit by:
1. VisualAlert (speedalert changes from black to red)
2. 1st level of beeping (one beep per second)
3. 2nd level of beeping (3 beeps per second)
- How does SpeedAlert work?
A. SpeedAlert works with Global Positioning Satellites and the in-car GPS unit to pinpoint the position of the car. Using a pre-recorded database of speed limits, the software is able to recognise the current Speed Zone the car is travelling in. SpeedAlert is also able to calculate accurately the speed of the vehicle, warning the driver using audible and/or visual alerts if the car exceeds the speed limit at any time.
- What is the difference between SpeedAlert and other similar products? What does SpeedAlert specifically offers me as an advantage over this other product?
A. SpeedAlert is the only product that tells you exactly what the speed limit is, at any time on any stretch of road. Similar products will display school zones, speed cameras, red light cameras and other points of interest. SpeedAlert does this, as well as continually alerting you to the correct speed limit.
- What countries outside of Australia is SpeedAlert available in?
A. Currently none. However we have received a great deal of interest from road authorities in several countries and are currently assessing opportunities to extend our operation.
- How can I report an incorrect speed limit or any other error?
- When do you plan on having other cities complete?
- What does User Defined mean?
A. SpeedAlert gives the user freedom of choice when determining when, and how, you want to be notified of information. A predetermined list of choices enables the user to customise SpeedAlert to their individual preferences.
For example:
"warn me when I exceed the speed limit by 5kms per hour", or,
"warn me when I reach the speed limit".
